After departing Palermo and arriving in Milan — a city that has never been a favourite, we decided to escape the crowds and head straight for the nearest lake. Lake Maggiore was the perfect choice, and the charming town of Arona offered exactly the kind of peaceful break we needed. With an eight‑hour layover to kill, this lakeside stop became an ideal way to unwind, enjoy the scenery, and break up the long journey ahead.
